Why Hard Training Days Matter: If It Came Easy, Would It Even Be Worth Celebrating?
Why Your Hard Days Make Your Best Days
If every lift felt easy… if every skill clicked on the first try… if every PB just “happened”... would it even be worth celebrating?
I don’t think so.
The truth is, the struggle is what makes victories (big or small) worth celebrating.
The Value of Struggle
Without the beginner experience, the struggle of learning new skills, the frustration of missed lifts, or plateaus, or feeling like you are moving 1 step forward, 2 steps back, there’s no story. There’s no build-up or triumph.
Being a beginner, missing reps, frustrating sessions, grinding through heavy lifts, are all part of the journey, and learn to love it. These moments will make the end result so much more worth celebrating.
Hard Is Part of the Process
When my team placed third with my team at my first ever CrossFit comp, I was ecstatic.
Upon reflection, although the placing was verrrrry cool - the thing that actually made me feel happiest, the thing that i was actually celebrating (and still am haha) was seeing the result of every hard training session, every grind on the echo bike (IYKYK), every rep of the new skills I learnt come to fruition on comp day.
And it’s the same for you.
Is weightlifting is hard? Yes
Is getting that new back squat PB hard? Yes
That body weight pull up? Yes
Or sticking to training consistently four times a week? Yes
Shift your perspective → Next time you feel frustrated in training, remind yourself: hard is part of the process, and is the reason the success will mean so much. Progress takes time, but it will happen - and it will be worth celebrating because of the frustration and work you’re putting in now.
Lessons Beyond the Gym
Plus, the lessons you learn under the barbell aren’t just for the gym.
Every time you show up on the days you don’t feel like it… Every time you stay patient with a skill that takes weeks or months to click — you’re building resilience. And that resilience doesn’t just help you PR your snatch.
It helps you:
Stick with the tough project at work instead of giving up when it gets messy
Handle stress at home or uni without crumbling
Keep moving forward when life throws you curveballs
Learn to celebrate the process as well as the win in the end
Hard doesn’t mean impossible. Elite performers know that the thing that is in front of them will be hard, yes, but that's the whole point.
Not giving up when it gets hard is a superpower. And the fact that it’s hard is exactly why it’ll be worth celebrating.
